This qualification has been developed for learners working in any environment who will have a job role involving work at height activities. Topics included within this qualification include; requirements for the use of equipment, correctly selecting and using equipment safely and correct techniques when using equipment.

Course Content

Understand requirements for the use of work at height equipment

  • Identify employer responsibilities

  • Identify employee responsibilities 

  • Identify what type of work at height (WaH) equipment requires additional training before use 

  • Define the terms that identify a competent person

Know how to correctly select and use work at height equipment safely

  • Identify categories of personal fall protective equipment (PFPE) safety harnesses 

  • Identify key differences between Mobile Elevated Work Platform category 3a (Mobile vertical) and 3b (Mobile boom) that may affect the risk 

  • Identify key risk factors when selecting WAH equipment

  • Describe key elements in the safe use of ladders & steps 

  • Give timescales for formal inspection on types of WAH equipment

Understand correct techniques to be used when using Work at Height (WAH) Equipment

  • Describe major risks from using working at height equipment

  • Describe the requirements of a rescue plan

  • Identify steps in the management hierarchy for work at height

Be able to use work at height equipment safely and effectively

  • Conduct a hazard spotting exercise for a work at height activity

  • Select, inspect, and fit harnesses for safe use

  • Demonstrate correct use of PPE during practical tasks

  • Demonstrate safe working procedures for rooftop access

  • Demonstrate the safe and correct use of:

    • Leaning ladders

    • Step ladder

    • Podium steps

    • Mobile towers

    • Fixed scaffold

    • Mobile elevated work platform (MEWP)

E-Assessment

  • The exam is conducted via Highfield E-assessment and is remotely invigilated online at your home or your workplace.​​

Exam Requirements

  • Photographic ID [ Passport / Driving Licence / National ID ]

  • PC/Laptop - PC or Laptop running Windows 7 or higher, or a Mac running iOS X or higher

  • Webcam

  • Smartphone running Android 4.1 or IOS 8.0 with camera / video functionality.

  • Good internet connection

  • Personal email address

Certification

  • Successful candidates receive a certificate from the Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance.
